Someone asked me Has AR Rahman ever copied a song from other composer? be it Indian or foreigner.

The answer is a simple yes. Yes he has copied songs. Which songs? For one that I know of, Saathiya title song.
He has copied the song from someone I can't say is Indian or foreigner, from someone to whom we address as GOD. Crazy huh? I am sure if you are reading this you know who AR Rahman is and you must have heard the song I mentioned. I request you to listen the song one more time, and you will realize this too that there's no way this song could be composed by a human. I believe this song is directly lifted from heavens. Pure Bliss.
The sitar, the flute, the melodious voice of Sonu Nigam, the hindi-urdu poetic touch to the lyrics by Gulzar; all this is so beautifully weaved by Rahman, you feel being out of the world yourself listening to this. Pure Bliss.

Here you go:

I've gone through almost all the links on the internet where it was claimed that Rahman copied/lifted any song,  but found nothing. Some tunes might seem to be same, just because the same instrument is used. Someone might claim that Genda Phool from Delhi 6 is actually a folk song and is lifted. It is true that the song is a Chattisgarhi folk song, but lifted- No No.
See how Rajat Dholakia explains the evolution of Genda Phool in the video below @ 5.20.

Some songs of A R Rahman are surely copied by foreigners. One example is Aye udi udi from Saathiya only. Can be easily found on youtube.

Thanks for reading :)
